Haanja village Vällamägi is the second highest peak next to the Suur Munamägi (301.5 m). When it comes to relative height, it is the highest hill in Estonia, the height from the foot to the peak is 84 m. The slopes of the hill are very steep, at times up to 40 degrees. Gullies have been formed in the longer and steeper slopes. Deciduous woodland with 120-year-old spruces grow on these steep slopes. There is a bog with a 17 m thick peat layer on the foot of the hill and many small mesotrophic swamps which have probably been lakes once. The hill can be visited by using a hiking trail with the same name.
