Ilaste windmill dates back to 1892. The milling of flour lasted until the middle of the 1970s and the last miller Sander of Ilaste worked in the mill until the beginning of the 1980s. The family farm of legendary Estonian writer Aadu Hint is a few hundred metres from the mill.
